Learning Objectives
Indicator: K1.4.2.1.5 - Write boldly and legibly the target letter for the week and add a name of a friend to it.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Write the target letter of the week boldly and legibly on paper and other surfaces.
- Identify words from their community that begin with the target letter of the week.
- Write the name of a friend boldly and legibly and identify its first letter.
- Form a short sentence about a community helper using the target letter and a friend’s name.
- Count the number of words in their sentences and compare with a partner.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)
Have learners practise exercising the fingers. Refer to the previous writing lesson, and have learners practise in the air, on the other surfaces and on paper. Have learners give examples of words that contain the letter of the week. Have learners form sentences with the selected words and count the words in their sentences. Learners in pairs sum up the number of words in their sentences.
