Learning Objectives

Indicator: B9.3.3.1.1 - Discuss joining and assembling materials, tools and equipment used for making artefacts/products

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least five tools or equipment used for joining and assembling in each of five trade areas: building site, wood workshop, metal/plastic workshop, food laboratory, and sewing workshop.
  2. Classify joining and assembling tools and equipment under their correct trade areas (food laboratory, sewing workshop, building site, wood workshop, metal/plastic workshop).
  3. Explain the function of at least three joining materials (e.g., nails, glue, egg white, tapioca, thread) and justify which joining material is most appropriate for a given task.
  4. Compare and contrast joining methods used in at least two different trade areas, giving reasons for the differences.
  5. Select the most effective joining tool or material for a specific artefact and give reasons for the choice based on criteria such as strength, cost, availability, and appearance.
