B5 French · Term 3, Week 5

Inviter quelqu'un et accepter une invitation

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: B5.4.6.2.1 - Inviter quelqu’un par téléphone

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify and use key vocabulary and expressions for making a telephone invitation in French (Allô, Je t’invite, C’est quand, D’accord).
  2. Ask and answer the question “C’est quand ton anniversaire?” (When is your birthday?) and respond with the day or date.
  3. Produce a short telephone dialogue of at least four exchanges in which they invite a friend to an event and receive an acceptance.
  4. Pronounce telephone invitation phrases with acceptable intonation, including rising intonation for questions.
  5. Demonstrate confidence and politeness when making and receiving a telephone invitation in a role-play situation.

The lesson builds on Week 5’s listening and viewing lesson (B5.4.6.1.1), where learners heard and watched a video of telephone invitations. This lesson moves learners from comprehension to oral production. It stops short of Week 6’s content (accepting and refusing with reasons), so learners will practise simple acceptance (“D’accord”, “Oui”, “Bien sûr”) without giving reasons.
