Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.1.1.LI.3 - Describe the various tools used in economic analysis.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least four tools used in economic analysis and state what each tool is used for.
  2. Construct a simple table and use it to present given economic data accurately.
  3. Draw a bar chart and a line graph from a given set of data using a graph book and ruler.
  4. Read and interpret information from a pie chart and a pictogram, explaining what the data shows.
  5. Explain why economists combine words, tables, graphs and charts when analysing economic problems.

Talk for Learning Approaches (TfL): In a collaborative small group, discuss the various tools (words, mathematical models) - Tables; Graphs, and Charts (Bar, Line, and Pie Charts and Pictograms used in solving economic issues by paying attention to different abilities and gender. Be sensitive to the inter-relatedness of the various spheres of life, groups, and individuals. Encourage learners to say "please" and "thank you" to one another during the group work to complete the task.
