Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.2.3.1.3 - Demonstrate how to set the cell datatype (General, Number, Currency, etc.).

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the default cell datatype in a spreadsheet and explain why it matters.
  2. Demonstrate how to set a cell datatype to General, Number, Currency, Date, Time, and Text using the Format Cells dialog box.
  3. Enter values, text, dates, and time in worksheet cells and change their formats for presentation.
  4. Compare how the same entry (e.g., 5000) appears under different datatypes (General, Number, Currency, Accounting).
  5. Apply appropriate datatypes to real-life data such as market prices, school fees, and dates of events.
