Learning Objectives
Indicator: B7.3.2.1.1 - Identify the various types and uses of Social Media sites such as those for Social Networking (Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp) and Microblogging (Twitter, Tumblr)
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define social media and distinguish between social networking sites and microblogging platforms.
- Identify at least five different social media platforms and sort them into the correct category: social networking or microblogging.
- Describe the primary purpose and typical use of Facebook, LinkedIn, WhatsApp, Twitter, and Tumblr.
- Explain which social media tool would be most appropriate for a given task (e.g., finding a job, chatting with family, sharing short public updates) and give reasons for their choice.
- Demonstrate how to construct a simple post appropriate for a social networking site and a microblogging platform, respecting character limits and audience.
