Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.1.2.LI.1 - Assess the democratic features of the indigenous governance system.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least four democratic features of the indigenous Ghanaian governance system, such as consultation, consensus-building, accountability, and representation.
  2. Explain how each identified feature reflects democratic principles of participation, equality, and rule of law.
  3. Evaluate the strengths and weaknesses of the indigenous governance system in upholding democratic values like tolerance, cooperation, patriotism, and respect for authority.
  4. Describe the contributions of women and persons with special needs within both indigenous governance and modern democracy in Ghana.
  5. Justify the relevance of indigenous democratic features to contemporary Ghanaian governance, using reasoned arguments and evidence from Ghanaian traditional settings.
