Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.1.2.LI.1 - Discuss values and traditions that identify a Ghanaian
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define the terms “value” and “tradition” in their own words and distinguish between the two concepts.
- Identify at least five key values and five key traditions that are widely recognised as Ghanaian.
- Explain how specific Ghanaian values and traditions (e.g., respect for elders, communal festivals, traditional greetings) shape a shared sense of identity.
- Discuss similarities and differences in values and traditions across at least two different societies or ethnic groups in Ghana.
- Evaluate at least one potential challenge that a particular tradition might pose to national cohesion and propose a respectful way to address it.
This lesson opens the topic of Identity and National Cohesion. It focuses on understanding what identifies a Ghanaian, and it lays the groundwork for later slots on false identity (Week 2) and promoting national cohesion (Week 3). The focus here is discussion and conceptual understanding (Level 2 depth of knowledge), not on detailed analysis of policy or cohesion strategies.
