Learning Objectives

Indicator: K2.1.1.1.4

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Sing the alphabet song while pointing to letters on the classroom wall.
  2. Recognise and say their own first name when they see it written on a name card.
  3. Identify at least one letter-sound in their own name (for example, the first letter).
  4. Match their name card to an identical name card held up by the teacher.
  5. Pair the first letter-sound of their name with the same letter-sound in another learner’s name.

Teacher creates two name cards for each pupil. with their first names. Give each child their name card and keep one. Play a game where you show up a name tag and the child who has a similar tag runs to you. Continue the matching until many learners are able to recognize letters in their names
