Learning Objectives

Indicator: K1.5.1.1.4 - Demonstrate respect for the symbols and songs of our nation.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Stand at attention with the correct posture (hands on chest or at sides) when the national anthem is played or sung.
  2. Sing the national anthem along with a tape recording, joining in with the words they already know.
  3. Recite the national pledge with the necessary postures and gestures, showing the teacher they know when to place their hand on their chest.
  4. Identify the three colours of the Ghana flag (red, gold, green) and point to them when asked.
  5. Show respect by keeping quiet, standing still, and removing hats when the national anthem is played, during a practice ceremony in class.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Learners sing the national anthem along with a tape recording and recite the pledge with the necessary postures and gestures, i.e. Standing at attention, hand on chest, etc.
In small groups, the learners use glue and pieces of materials in the colours of the national flag to build a large collage of the Ghana Flag.
