Learning Objectives

Indicator: K1.5.1.1.3 - Listen attentively and interact with peers during a teacher-read-aloud session about the Independence Day of Ghana

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Sit quietly and listen attentively while the teacher reads aloud a short story about Ghana’s Independence Day.
  2. Answer simple questions about the Independence Day story using words and pictures.
  3. Talk with a partner about what they saw or heard in the story, taking turns to speak.
  4. Use at least three new words from the story (such as flag, parade, freedom, celebrate) to describe Independence Day activities.
  5. Draw a simple scene showing something from the Independence Day celebration.

Encourage the learners to interact actively with peers during the teacher-read aloud session on the theme.
Ask leading questions and have learners answer to bring out the main points in the text. Assist learners to use illustrations and picture to enable them to understand unfamiliar words. Learners use new vocabulary in describing activities that go on during the celebration of the Independence Day.
