Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.1.3.LI.6 - Apply the knowledge of first aid principles to real-life scenarios and adapt responses based on the situation.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify three symptoms of a suspected broken bone (fracture) from a description of a real-life injury scenario.
  2. Describe the correct first aid steps for managing cuts, sprains, and strains, including when to seek professional medical help.
  3. Demonstrate the step-by-step first aid procedure for managing a nosebleed and a suspected broken tibia using available materials.
  4. Assess a given first aid scenario and justify the choice of treatment based on the principles of first aid (preserve life, prevent deterioration, promote recovery) learned in Week 5.
  5. Use digital devices to research and present first aid management for at least two common injuries, citing reliable sources.

Digital-Based Learning: With the aid of their digital devices, learners research common injuries that people suffer from. Learners describe first-aid treatment strategies/methods needed to manage the common injuries such as cuts, scrapes, minor burns, bruises, sprains and strains, blisters, fracture, nosebleeds, etc.

Assessment (2.1.3.AS.6): Level 2: Describe three symptoms of a suspected broken bone. Level 3: Describe the first aid methods to use in managing cuts, sprains and strains. Level 4: Demonstrate how to manage nosebleeds and a broken tibia.
