SHS2 Ict · Semester 2, Week 9
Guided and Unguided Network Systems
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.2.1.LI.2 - Describe and Explain Common Network Communication Protocols and Standards, such as Ethernet, TCP/IP, HTTP(s), SMTP, FTP, Wi-Fi, LTE, Bluetooth, IrDA, RFID, and NFC.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define a network communication protocol and explain why protocols and standards are necessary for devices to communicate reliably.
- Describe the purpose and key features of at least six of the following: Ethernet, TCP/IP, HTTP(s), SMTP, FTP, Wi-Fi, LTE, Bluetooth, IrDA, RFID, and NFC.
- Explain how protocols work together in layers (for example, how TCP/IP and HTTP combine when you visit a website).
- Match each protocol or standard to at least one real-world application in Ghana, such as mobile money, toll booths, or online banking.
- Evaluate the importance of protocols and standards for data security and reliable communication, using Level 3 strategic thinking.

- Engage in interactive learner-centred teaching and learning activities to describe and Level 3 Strategic explain network communication protocols and standards, including their purposes, reasoning features, and functionalities. - Conduct an inquiry and research project to investigate specific examples of network communication protocols and standards (e.g., Ethernet, TCP/IP, HTTP(s), reasoning SMTP, FTP, Wi-Fi, LTE, Bluetooth, IrDA, RFID, NFC) and their applications in various contexts. - Participate in group discussions with the ability to understand and evaluate multiple features, discussing the importance and reasons for using communication protocols and standards. Teaching and Learning Materials: - ● Notepad or exercise book ● Pen ● Smartphones ● Laptops ● Desktop computers - ● Tablets ● TV and Radio ● Productivity tools ● Open Educational Resources (Including - Udemy/Coursera, Khan - Academy, TESSA) - YouTube, - MOOCs - ● The iBox (CENDLOS) ● Subject-based application software ● Instructional Laboratories (with - multimedia equipment and - smartboards) ● Maintenance and repair workshops Assessment (2.2.1.AS.2). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 3 Strategic reasoning. Extended critical thinking and
