Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.2.1.LI.2 - Classify transmission media used to send and receive data in a network environment

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Classify transmission media into guided (wired) and unguided (wireless) categories, giving at least two examples of each.
Describe how data travels through twisted pair cable, coaxial cable, optical fibre, microwave, satellite, and Bluetooth, using simple everyday comparisons.
Compare guided and unguided media in terms of speed, cost, security, interference, and mobility, using a comparison table or chart.
Justify the choice of a particular transmission medium for a given scenario (e.g., connecting two offices in Accra, linking a classroom printer, connecting a village to the internet), explaining the reasoning with at least two supporting points.
Work in mixed-ability groups to identify and label transmission media in their school surroundings and present their findings orally or in writing.
