Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.3.1.1.5 - Demonstrate command of the knowledge of adverbs

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify adverbs in given sentences and state what word or phrase each adverb modifies.
  2. Use adverbs to modify adjectives correctly in their own sentences (e.g., “That was a very funny comedian”).
  3. Use adverbs to pre-modify other adverbs, prepositions, and prepositional phrases correctly (e.g., “The bullet went right through the shooter”).
  4. Use adverbs to pre-modify indefinite pronouns, pre-determiners, and cardinal numerals correctly (e.g., “We will stay for about three weeks”).
  5. Construct a short paragraph of at least five sentences that uses different types of adverbs correctly to add detail and precision.

  E.g.: I saw many very fast-moving vehicles on the road.
- Use adverbs to pre-modify prepositions or prepositional phrases. E.g.: The bullet went right through the shooter.
  - Use adverbs to pre-modify:
    - indefinite pronouns, e.g. Nearly everybody bought the same vehicle.
    - pre-determiners, e.g. I paid more than three thousand Ghana Cedis for the laptop.
    - cardinal numerals, e.g. We will stay for about three weeks.
