Learning Objectives

Indicator: B2.1.9.1.1 - Give and respond to commands

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least five common command verbs (action words) in their present form, such as come, go, sit, stand, close, open, and write.
  2. Respond promptly and correctly to at least four simple classroom commands given orally by the teacher or a classmate.
  3. Give a clear simple command to a classmate using the correct verb and a respectful tone, and check that the classmate obeys.
  4. Role-play a short scene (for example, a classroom or home setting) where they both give and obey commands, using at least three different action words correctly.
  5. Distinguish between a command (an order) and a polite request, and explain the difference in one simple sentence.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

- Revise verbs (action words) by having learners identify the present form of verbs and use them in sentences, e.g. come, go, sit, etc. (action).
- Have several learners obey commands such as 'stand up', 'close the door'.
- The teacher gives commands which the class/individuals promptly obey.
- Have Learners role-play giving and responding to commands.
