Learning Objectives

Indicator: B5.1.1.1.5 - Identify home row keys, top row, bottom row keys, numerical pad and type (short sentences).

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Identify and name the home row keys (A, S, D, F, J, K, L and the semicolon key) and state their importance as the starting position for touch typing.
Identify and name the top row keys (Q, W, E, R, T, Y, U, I, O, P) and the bottom row keys (Z, X, C, V, B, N, M, comma, period, forward slash).
Identify the numerical pad keys (0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9) and explain their purpose on the keyboard.
Locate each key on a keyboard or keyboard chart and match it to the correct finger and row.
Type short sentences of 8 to 12 words using the correct finger placement for top row, bottom row and home row keys.
