Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.4.3.LI.1 - Create a stanza of a poem using a simple template as a guide.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify the structural features of a simple stanza template, including line count, syllable pattern and rhyme scheme.
  2. Use a provided template to draft an original four-line stanza on a chosen topic.
  3. Apply at least two poetic devices (such as simile, personification or repetition) within the drafted stanza.
  4. Read aloud their completed stanza with attention to rhythm and phrasing.
  5. Give and receive respectful feedback on classmates’ stanzas, using language that avoids hurting others.
