Learning Objectives

Indicator: B2.2.9.1.2 - Read and recognise 120 sight words

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Read aloud at least 10 new sight words from a word wall without sounding them out letter by letter.
  2. Identify sight words quickly when they appear in a short written passage.
  3. Match sight words to their correct meanings in simple sentences.
  4. Use at least 5 new sight words correctly in their own spoken or written sentences.
  5. Keep a running record of the sight words they have mastered, working toward the 120-word target.

This lesson builds directly on the pace, accuracy and expression work from Week 9 (B2.2.9.1.1). Learners will continue to read with good pace, but this week the focus shifts to recognising common words instantly. The contextual clue work (self-correcting pronunciation) is scheduled for Week 11, so this lesson stops at recognition and use of sight words in context.
