Learning Objectives

Indicator: B4.4.1.4.1

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. State what heart rate is and explain why it rises during exercise.
  2. Identify the target heart-rate range (70 to 75% of maximum heart rate) needed to improve aerobic capacity.
  3. Demonstrate how to measure their own pulse at the wrist or neck after exercise.
  4. Perform a power walk, walk-jog or jog at a pace that keeps their heart rate within the target range.
  5. Record their heart rate before, during and after activity and describe how it changes.

Learners walk, power walk, walk-jog, jog at their own pace keeping the heart rate at maximum aerobic endurance level (70-75%) at least three times a week. Incorporate aerobic dance and circuit training and strength training in this moderate to vigorous physical activity.
