Learning Objectives

Indicator: B1.4.3.4.3 - Explain the purpose of warming up before physical activity and cooling down after physical activity.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. State in their own words what a warm-up is and give at least one reason why we warm up before physical activity.
  2. State in their own words what a cool-down is and give at least one reason why we cool down after physical activity.
  3. Demonstrate two simple warm-up exercises (for example, arm circles and gentle jogging on the spot) and two cool-down exercises (for example, slow walking and deep breathing).
  4. Answer simple questions about how warming up helps to prevent injuries and how cooling down helps the body to relax and recover.
  5. Explain the difference between warming up and cooling down using the words “before” and “after”.
