Learning Objectives
Indicator: B7.3.1.1.2 - Identify the role of family members.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify and state at least three roles each for children, parents and grandparents in the family.
- Explain why each family member’s role is important for the smooth running of the family.
- Discuss how the roles of family members differ across the matrilineal and patrilineal family systems studied in the previous lesson.
- Demonstrate respect for the roles of different family members through role-play and class discussion.
- Reflect on their own responsibilities at home and describe one way they can improve their contribution to their family.

1. In a discussion, learners identify the roles of children, parents and grandparents in the family. For example: • Children - running errands, performing household chores • Parents - provision of basic needs (e.g. food, shelter, education and security) • Grandparents - play advisory role to the family; help in character formation
