Learning Objectives

Indicator: K2.2.3.1.6 - Recognize and create paper and rubber beads according to simple patterns in the environment

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Point out and name simple repeating patterns they see around them in the classroom and environment (for example, colours on a cloth, stripes on a mat, or beads on a necklace).
  • Identify the “part” of a pattern that repeats when looking at a string of paper beads or rubber beads.
  • Create a simple paper bead by cutting, rolling and gluing a strip of paper from an old calendar or brown paper.
  • String paper and rubber beads to make a necklace, following a simple colour pattern of their own choice.
  • Talk about how beads are used during family celebrations and festivals in Ghana, such as naming ceremonies, birthdays and Homowo.

Provide learners with different materials such as straws and old calendars to cut and create beads. Cut old calendars, brown papers, and roll them using glues. Have learners prepare nice beads for the classroom celebration.
Role play activities that go on during the different family religious and traditional celebrations. E.g. Homowo festival, Hogbetsotso festival etc.
