Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.4.14.1.1 - Write short paragraphs to describe incidents. E.g. accidents, fire outbreak.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Recall and explain the five stages of the writing process in the correct order.
  2. Brainstorm ideas on a selected incident and group related points together.
  3. Develop organised points into a paragraph outline for a descriptive incident.
  4. Write a short paragraph of at least five sentences describing an incident such as an accident or fire outbreak.
  5. Edit their own work and a partner’s work for clarity, correct tense, and logical sequence of events.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

- Briefly revise the writing process by having learners recall the stages and explain the features and relevance of each stage.
- Have learners select a topic and brainstorm to generate ideas.
- Put them into groups to organise the points for the development of paragraphs.
- Assign learners to individually develop the points into outlines and then into a draft.
- Let them do self and peer-editing before finally presenting the final work. Learners present their finished work in groups.
