Learning Objectives
Indicator: B7.2.1.1.3 - Demonstrate knowledge of appropriate expressions for greetings, courtesies and requests.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify and state the correct Arabic expression for congratulating someone on a marriage, using the phrase “بارك الله لكما وبارك عليكما وجمع بينكما في خير” (May Allah bless you and shower His blessings upon you and unite you in goodness).
- Recognise the appropriate expression of gratitude and congratulations, “الحمد لله على هذه النعمة” (Praise be to Allah for this blessing) and “هنيئا لك” (Congratulations to you), and use them in response to good news.
- Distinguish between expressions used for marriage congratulations and those used for other occasions such as the birth of a child or success in examinations.
- Apply the correct congratulatory expression in short role-plays and dialogues in response to given contexts.
- Demonstrate cultural awareness by responding appropriately to a congratulatory greeting, including thanking the speaker, in a manner consistent with Ghanaian Muslim cultural norms.
