Learning Objectives
Indicator: B4.4.1.2.1 - Describe how the different areas - The Colony, Asante, The Northern Territories and The British Mandated Togoland - became one territory known as the Gold Coast.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Define colonialism and explain the difference between a colony and a protectorate.
- Describe how the Colony, Asante, and the Northern Territories each came under British control.
- Identify the areas that made up British Togoland on a map of the Gold Coast.
- Use a map to show how the four areas combined to form the Gold Coast.
- Compare the map of the Gold Coast in 1955 with the map of present-day Ghana and discuss at least two similarities and two differences.
