Essentials for Survival

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.2.1.LI.1 - Explain, with diagrams, the concept of the movement of air in humans and its importance.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Trace and describe the pathway of air from the nostrils to the lungs in the correct order, naming each structure involved.
  2. Draw and label a simplified diagram showing the movement of air into and out of the human respiratory system.
  3. Explain the role of the diaphragm and rib cage in bringing air into and out of the lungs.
  4. State at least three reasons why the movement of air into and out of the human body is important for survival.
  5. Use a model or simple demonstration to show how pressure changes cause air to move in and out of the lungs.
