Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.5.1.LI.2 - Describe tools and equipment used for house wiring

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least eight different tools and equipment used in house wiring and state the specific function of each.
  2. Describe the proper care and maintenance practices for hand tools, measuring instruments, and power tools used in electrical installation work.
  3. Demonstrate the correct handling technique for at least three tools (e.g., side cutter, pliers, multimeter) in a practical demonstration.
  4. Evaluate a given maintenance scenario and recommend appropriate care practices to prolong the lifespan of a specified tool.
  5. Work collaboratively in mixed-gender groups to present findings on tools, their functions, care, and maintenance using oral or digital presentations.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Research and Collaboration:
- Organise the learners into mixed ability and gender inclusive groups, task them to research on the tools used for house wiring and what each is used for. E.g.; pliers, side cutter, laser light, multi-meter, draw wir, among others.
- Functions of each tool
- Care and maintenance of tools and equipment
Problem-Based Learning: Work in pairs to:
1. Let students come out with ways to prolong the life-span of various tools and equipment NB. Ensure all learners participate in all varieties of practical activities and project work given mixed gender groupings as well.
