Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.5.1.LI.9 - Earth an installation work in accordance with rules and regulations

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Explain the term “earthing” and distinguish between earthing and neutral connection in an electrical installation.
  2. Outline at least four reasons why earthing is essential in every electrical installation.
  3. Describe the step-by-step process of earthing an installation, including the components involved and the tools used.
  4. Demonstrate the correct procedure for earthing a consumer’s installation using appropriate tools and materials, following IEE regulations.
  5. Justify, using critical reasoning, the consequences of a poorly earthed or unearthed installation in a real-life situation.
