Electrical Systems Design

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.5.1.LI.8 Apply knowledge of final circuits in a practical situation

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define a final circuit and state the three main types of final circuits used in house wiring.
  2. Identify the correct cable sizes, protective devices, and accessories required for a given final circuit application.
  3. Design a simple final circuit layout for a room, showing the correct connection from the distribution board to the load.
  4. Construct a working extension board comprising two socket outlets, one lamp controlled by one switch, and one lamp controlled by two switches, following proper wiring procedures.
  5. Test and verify the completed final circuit using a multimeter and a megger, and explain the purpose of each test.
