Indicator: K2.1.4.1.7

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  • Compare the sizes of two or more food items using the words “bigger than”, “smaller than” and “same size as”
  • Compare the weights of food items using the words “heavier than”, “lighter than” and “the same weight as”
  • Arrange three food items in order from smallest to biggest and from lightest to heaviest
  • Use their hands as a simple balance to feel which of two food items is heavier
  • Talk about why eating big and heavy foods like yam and plantain gives us energy to play and grow

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Bring a variety of food items that we eat daily and water bottles. Have learners compare the sizes, weight and length. E.g. yam is bigger than sweet potatoes, a big bottle of water is heavier than a small bottle of water. Ask learners to compare fruits and other things.
