Indicator: B5.5.1.1.2 - Examine sources of evidence about the role of Joseph Mensah Sarbah in the Aborigines Rights Protection Society (ARPS) 1897

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify Joseph Mensah Sarbah from pictures and describe at least three key facts about his background, including his birthplace and education.
  2. Explain what the Aborigines Rights Protection Society (ARPS) was and why it was formed in 1897.
  3. Describe at least two key actions Joseph Mensah Sarbah took as a leader of the ARPS, especially regarding the Lands Bill of 1897.
  4. Examine at least two different sources of evidence (such as pictures, written records, or oral accounts) about Sarbah’s role and state what each source tells us.
  5. Present a simple poster summarising Joseph Mensah Sarbah’s role in the ARPS.
