Learning Objectives

Indicator: B4.1.3.5.3 - Display own artworks to share creative experiences based on own ideas, knowledge and understanding of topical issues in Ghana

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Select and sort their own artworks that best reflect a chosen topical issue in Ghana (e.g. galamsey, sanitation, deforestation, road safety) and justify their choices.
Mount their selected artworks in a classroom or school space using appropriate display methods (hanging, leaning, placing, draping, or using raised plinths) to suit the available space.
Produce clear, neatly written or printed labels for each artwork showing the artist’s name, title of work, size, and date of production.
Assign and carry out exhibition roles (tour guide, security monitor, commentator, visitors’ book keeper) within their group to run the display successfully.
Present and explain their artworks to visitors, linking each piece to the chosen topical issue in Ghana.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Learners are to:
- decide on the types and number of artworks to exhibit and mount them based on the space available to suit the theme for the exhibition (e.g. artworks that best reflect current topical issues of national concern in Ghana);
- display artworks by hanging, draping, placing, spreading, leaning, using plinths to raise or add height and depth to some exhibits;
- label the works using manual penmanship (calligraphy) or ICT (computer) prints: name of artist, title of work, size of work, date of production;
- assign tasks and responsibilities to themselves (individually or in groups) and ensure they are carried out successfully, e.g. leading visitors through the exhibition space, explaining the concepts/title of the artworks and the theme for the exhibition, writing of comments and signing of visitors' books;
NOTE
- check/monitor visitors improper practices (e.g. touching, lifting, handling and/or taking away some of the exhibits);
- organise opening and closing ceremonies for the exhibition;
- prepare template for appreciating, appraising, evaluating and reporting, etc.;
- clean the hall after the exhibition.
