Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.2.2.LI.1 - Explain what a disease is.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define disease as any condition that disrupts the normal structure or functioning of cells, tissues, organs, or the whole body.
  2. Give at least four examples of common diseases found in Ghana, such as malaria, cholera, hypertension, and sickle cell disease.
  3. Distinguish between acute and chronic diseases using examples and key features.
  4. List at least three symptoms of common diseases such as malaria, typhoid fever, and hypertension.
  5. Explain, in their own words, why a symptom is not the same as a disease, using examples from personal experience.
