SHS2 Physics · Semester 2, Week 15
Digital Electronics
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 2.3.3.LI.4 - Describe combinational logic applications and microcontroller.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Explain what a combinational logic circuit is and identify at least three real-world applications where combinational logic is used.
- Analyse a given combination logic circuit comprising AND, OR, NOT, NAND or NOR gates and describe its output for given input combinations.
- Describe the features and characteristics of a microcontroller, particularly the Arduino board, and distinguish it from a general-purpose computer.
- Work in mixed-ability groups to propose how an Arduino-based system could solve a basic challenge in their community, and present the idea clearly to the class.
- Compare combinational logic circuits with sequential circuits, noting that combinational circuits have no memory and their output depends only on current inputs.

Talk for Learning: Describe and explain the function of a given combination logic circuit. Project-Based Learning: Learners in groups of mixed abilities describe the features and characteristics of an Arduino and apply in solving some basic challenges in their community. Foster respect and inclusion in physics, creating an inclusive and welcoming classroom environment that values the contributions of individuals from all backgrounds and genders. Explore contributions of vulnerable groups in the class. Assessment (2.3.3.AS.4). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 1 Recall; Level 2 Skills of conceptual understanding; Level 4 Extended critical thinking and reasoning.
