SHS2 Physics · Semester 2, Week 13

Digital Electronics

Lesson notes

Learning Objectives

Indicator: 2.3.3.LI.1 - Distinguish between analogue and digital signals and describe their functions.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define analogue and digital signals in their own words, giving at least one distinguishing feature for each.
  2. Draw a waveform for an analogue signal and a waveform for a digital signal, correctly labelling the axes (time and amplitude).
  3. Identify whether a given signal or device is analogue or digital, and justify their answer with a reason.
  4. Describe the function of analogue signals and digital signals in everyday electronic systems, giving at least one practical example of each.
  5. Compare analogue and digital signals by stating at least two advantages of digital signals over analogue signals, using correct terminology such as noise, discrete, and continuous.
