Learning Objectives

Indicator: B9.5.2.1.1 - Identify user requirements

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Explore at least three situations within their community and identify the issues present in each.
  2. Distinguish between needs, wants and lacks in a given community situation.
  3. State the main problems identified from a community situation and explain how they affect people’s lives.
  4. Write a simple design brief that identifies the user and their requirements for solving a chosen community problem.
  5. Present their identified problem and proposed solution to the class in a clear, organised manner.

3. State main issues identified for discussion.
4. Identify needs, wants and lacks within the environment which if not addressed can lead to problems.
5. Discuss the challenges observed in the situations, in groups.
6. Analyse the problems and state the extent to which they affect people's lives in the community.
7. Write a report on the problem situation and write a suitable design brief to indicate solution to the problem.
