Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.3.1.LI.2 - Describe how the elements and principles of art and design are used to generate ideas for artworks.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Explain at least four ways in which elements of art (such as line, colour, texture and shape) can spark ideas for a new artwork.
  2. Describe how principles of design (such as balance, contrast, rhythm and emphasis) guide the arrangement of ideas in a composition.
  3. Analyse two natural objects from their immediate environment and identify the elements and principles visible in them.
  4. Present a short oral or visual description showing how an idea for an artwork could be developed from a natural object found on their school compound.
  5. Create a simple idea sketch that demonstrates the use of at least two elements and two principles of design.
