Learning Objectives

Indicator: 1.3.1.LI.3 - Identify and discuss key elements and stages of design thinking process.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. List the five stages of the design thinking process in the correct order: Empathize, Define, Ideate, Prototype, and Test.
  2. Explain what happens in each stage of the design thinking process using simple, everyday language.
  3. Identify which stage of design thinking is being used when shown a short scenario or example from daily life.
  4. Work in a small group to walk through the five stages for a simple community problem and present their thinking to the class.
  5. Reflect on how design thinking connects to the elements and principles of art and design they studied in the previous two weeks.
