Learning Objectives

Indicator: 3.1.2.LI.1 - Analyse major design concepts in the 21st century.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Define the major 21st-century design concepts: smart design, sustainable design, green design, functional design, and non-functional design.
  2. Distinguish between functional and non-functional design using concrete examples from everyday objects in Ghana.
  3. Categorise given products and environments as examples of smart, sustainable, or green design, with reasons for each classification.
  4. Identify 21st-century design gaps and needs in their own community through group brainstorming and discussion.
  5. Generate a mind map that proposes 21st-century design solutions for a selected community design gap.
