SHS3 Manufacturing Engineering · Semester 1, Week 16
Design and Drawing for Manufacture
Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: 3.2.1.LI.2 - Draw part-drawings of a machine part.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- Identify the essential elements of a part drawing, including material specification, dimensions, tolerances, surface finish, and joining techniques.
- Draw a single part drawing of a simple machine component showing all views necessary for manufacture.
- Annotate a part drawing correctly with dimensions, tolerances, and surface finish symbols.
- Present their part drawing to peers and respond constructively to feedback.
- Evaluate a peer’s part drawing against a checklist of required manufacturing information.

Practice-Based Learning: Individual learners draw a single part of a product providing the material used, dimensions, tolerances, surface finish, joining techniques, etc., needed to manufacture it. Learners share drawing with peers and receive comments. Teaching and Learning Materials: - Library resources - Textbooks - Internet access - Projectors - Audio-visuals - Machine component Assessment (3.2.1.AS.2). The document marks these depth-of-knowledge levels for this indicator: Level 1 Recall; Level 4 Extended critical thinking and reasoning.
