Learning Objectives

Indicator: B6.1.3.1.4 - Demonstrate basic manipulations on sample data e.g. arranging data in a matrix table, sorting and calculations etc.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Arrange a given set of names in both increasing (A to Z) and decreasing (Z to A) alphabetical order.
Arrange numerical data in ascending and descending order.
Perform basic calculations (addition, subtraction, multiplication and division) on sample data.
Organise sample data into a matrix table (rows and columns) for easy reading and manipulation.
Generate age data from given dates of birth and use the ages in sorting and calculations.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

Guide learners to sort data in alphabetical order (increasing and decreasing order) and perform basic calculations such as multiplying, dividing and adding vales of sample data. Learners can also be guided to generate age data from dates of birth.
