Lesson notes
Learning Objectives
Indicator: B5.1.3.1.1 - Use Strategies for identifying data from results of an experiment.
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- distinguish between qualitative data (descriptions) and quantitative data (numbers) from the results of a simple experiment;
- identify at least three strategies for recognising data when looking at experiment results;
- sort experiment results into qualitative and quantitative categories with at least 80% accuracy;
- convert simple experiment results from one format to another (for example, from a list to a tally chart, or from a description to a set of numbers) without losing the meaning of the data;
- explain why it is important to keep data accurate when recording results from an experiment.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)
Guide learners to identify the types of data (qualitative and quantitative) by asking leading questions. Task them to convert data from one format to another without losing its value.
