Learning Objectives

Indicator: B9.3.4.1.1 - Demonstrate the ability to make inferences of text features such as word order, conjugation of verbs and sentence structure.

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

Define inference and identify at least three text features (titles, headings, word order, verb conjugation, sentence structure) that help a reader draw conclusions beyond the literal words.
Make inferences about the content and purpose of an Arabic text based on its title, headings and subheadings before reading the full passage.
Infer the time frame (past, present, future) of a sentence by examining the conjugation of its verbs.
Infer meaning from Arabic sentence structure, including the difference between nominal and verbal sentences.
Explain how bullet points, a glossary, an index and guide words help readers locate and predict information, using an example from a school textbook or storybook.
