Learning Objectives

Indicator: B9.2.2.2.4

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Research and select at least two musical works by African musicians (indigenous, art, or pop) that address emerging topical issues such as climate change, galamsey, sanitation, or energy waste.
  2. Analyse the message, cultural origin, and musical features of selected works, identifying how each reflects its time and culture.
  3. Create an original short song or rhythmic composition (at least 8 bars or 16 lines) that promotes awareness of one emerging topical issue, drawing inspiration from the researched works.
  4. Prepare a written rehearsal plan that allocates time and resources for singing, drumming, dancing, costume, and venue.
  5. Present and justify their original musical work, explaining how it reflects different times and cultures while sensitising the public on a chosen issue.
