Learning Objectives

Indicator: B8.2.2.3.7 - Design and produce own dance and drama that reflect a range of different times and cultures

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least two Ghanaian dance and drama artists (including Martin Owusu and Nia Yartey) and describe the themes and cultural influences in their works.
  2. Brainstorm and select a theme or topical issue for their own dance piece or play, drawing from Ghanaian daily life such as sanitation or pension services.
  3. Apply the design process (idea development, planning, rehearsal, and refinement) to create a short original dance piece or drama scene.
  4. Produce a simple performance that reflects both a specific Ghanaian cultural tradition and a contemporary issue, showing how past and present connect.
  5. Present their finished dance or drama piece to classmates and explain the cultural and topical choices they made.
