Learning Objectives

Indicator: B7.2.2.2.4 - Create and produce own musical art works that reflect the history and culture of the people of the community

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Research at least one indigenous musical genre from their community and record key features, such as its purpose, instruments, and the occasions when it is performed.
  2. Select one indigenous musical work or genre and write a short paragraph explaining what personal experience, mood, story, or concept they want the work to express.
  3. Create a rehearsal plan that allocates time to at least four aspects of performance: singing, drumming, dancing, costume, and venue.
  4. Produce a simple musical art work, such as a short song or rhythmic pattern, that reflects the history and culture of their community.
  5. Present their musical work and rehearsal plan to the class, explaining how the piece connects to the community’s culture and history.
