Learning Objectives

Indicator: B3.1.6.2.2 - Ask and answer questions for clarification about what other people say

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Ask at least three different clarifying questions (e.g., “What do you mean by…?”, “Can you say that again?”, “Do you mean…?”) to seek clarity on what a speaker has said.
  2. Answer clarifying questions from peers by rephrasing or giving more details about their own statements.
  3. Use polite language (e.g., “Sorry, I did not hear you clearly”, “Please, can you explain more?”) when asking for clarification during a conversation.
  4. Respond appropriately to a speaker’s clarification by thanking them or confirming understanding (e.g., “Thank you, now I understand”).
  5. Apply clarifying question skills in a short conversation about a familiar topic such as climate change or a community event, demonstrating turn-taking as learned in Week 5.
