Learning Objectives

Indicator: B1.1.6.1.1 - Use appropriate greetings for different times of the day

By the end of the lesson, learners can:

  1. Identify at least three different times of the day (morning, afternoon, evening) when greetings change.
  2. Produce the correct greeting for each time of the day: “Good morning,” “Good afternoon,” and “Good evening.”
  3. Respond appropriately to each greeting when someone greets them.
  4. Demonstrate at least one greeting and its response in a short role-play with a partner.
  5. State one reason why greetings are important in their community.

Exemplars (from the NaCCA curriculum)

- Revise daily greetings by having learners identify greeting times in the day.
e.g. Morning-Good morning, Afternoon-Good afternoon, Evening-Good evening.
- Discuss the correct responses to these greetings.
- Let learners take turns to demonstrate greetings at different times of the day and also practise the appropriate responses.
- Discuss the importance of greetings.
