Learning Objectives
Indicator: B9.1.1.1.4 - Demonstrate appropriate turn taking and use techniques for effective argument (debating)
By the end of the lesson, learners can:
- State at least three rules of turn taking in a debate and explain why each rule matters for fairness and order.
- Identify and use at least two techniques for effective argument, such as using evidence, addressing the opposing view, or using persuasive language, in a spoken argument.
- Take turns appropriately in a mini-debate by speaking only when recognised by the chairperson, listening actively, and not interrupting others.
- Use formal register (respectful, clear, structured language) when presenting a point for or against a motion.
- Evaluate a short debate segment by commenting on whether speakers followed turn-taking rules and used effective argument techniques.
